JENNIFER MORGAN
by June Mattingly // regularmain.com
“Big Cat,” 2009, acrylic on canvas, 48 x 72 x 1.5 inches
Her Artist Statement talks to the “artist” inside all of us.

all of us i have an addiction.
to express myself,
transfer my feelings,
to communicate.
it pulls me,
when the color seeps out of my days,
it pushes me
towards the freedom i seek.
it is based on perspective,
experiences, and
the people i meet in this journey called life.
it is an extension of me.
"Catch 22,'"acrylic on canvas, 48 x 60 x 1.5 inches
Instantly one becomes enchanted by Jennifer Morgan’s “We’re All Pink” series of
narrative, nature-driven innate, personal portraits of whimsical, Safari animals
superimposed on swimming backgrounds of layers and layers of animated texture,
bold and brave color and ornamental patterns. Zebras sprint across smears of red
paint, a usually tree hugging leopard poses on the ground for the camera, a
moose is paired with cherry blossoms, and a proud caribou struts with a pair of
birds of prey socializing upon his regal antlers.
Buck in Bloom - 36 x 24 in  - Acrylic and latex on canvas
On purpose, these imaginative, almost realistic symbols become empowered to
address a serious issue: the unification of the animal kingdom and humankind.
Connectedness is what resonates through these emotional and energetic canvases.

The female influence is still present, but the images become even more empowered
by their  animalistic themes. We imagine it's that gentle, almost maternal cradle of
the paintbrush that moves through the eyes of her subjects and wraps itself around
the viewer.

Morgan, who for seven years has followed her passion for creating art full-time,
graduated from the University of North Texas. She implemented her first solo show
in 2001 at the Quadrangle.

Her work has also been featured at Neiman Marcus, The Belmont Hotel,
The Ashton and Design Within Reach.

Bering & James, who represents Morgan and contemporaries of hers, is located
in the Rhode Place Warehouse  District, west of downtown Houston,
close to River Oaks.
