Machines, insects, design, motion, emotion, human form, animal form, books, TV commercials, life in general. I don’t know if this is a symptom of ADD or a reflection of the total bombardment of random information modern society has thrown at us.
Some times ideas come at me in a flash. Complete and ready to build. More often they start as part of an idea. A doodle of a shape that I like then message into a complete three-dimensional design. Some times the design is driven by the medium I want to work. Some times the medium is driven by the design.
The common thread that runs thru all of my work is that they all have a story to tell. They are all characters in a book, play, dream, commercial, incomplete sentence, etc. I create pieces with familiar qualities about them but are manipulated to a point where they awaken thoughts that are buried in the viewers psyche. I provide the characters, I let the viewer write their own stories.
