Naomie Kremer: On Location
McClain Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of oil paintings by
Naomie Kremer for ArtHouston, 2010. Her paintings vibrate with rhythmic layers
of unexpected palettes derived from nature. Without any overt
representational content and only vague suggestions of landscape, the
paintings seem to portray an extravagantly energetic event.  The inter-lapping
brushstrokes embody the process itself, directing the viewer's eye to weave
across and through the all-over compositions.

Several of the paintings in On Location were inspired by places and events
that the artist has experienced. Kremer's painting, Antipode was prompted by
a trip to Cambodia while Quark was created after a visit to Mont St. Michel in
France.  The dense brushstrokes and wide range of colors in other paintings
create a storm of energy that recall Umberto Boccioni, the Italian Futurist.

On Location marks Naomie's first showing with McClain Gallery.  Kremer was
born in Tel Aviv, Israel where she spent her childhood before moving to
Brooklyn, New York.  She received an MFA in painting and drawing from the
California College of the Arts in Oakland, California in 1993.  Recent projects
include an exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany and an installation at the
Oakland Airport.  Kremer's artwork has been reviewed by such publications at
Artnews, Artweek, Art in America, Art Ltd., and the San Francisco Chronicle.
Her artwork is represented in various public and corporate collections
including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, Hewlett Packard
Corporation, the United States Embassy in Beijing, China, and the University of
California, Berkeley Art Museum.
