According to Elton John, “Without Bernie, basically, there wouldn’t have been an Elton
John.  I mean, without that stroke of good fortune and kismet as it were, Elton John probably
wouldn’t have happened. I’m just a purveyor of Bernie’s feelings, Bernie’s thoughts.”

Born in Lincolnshire, England in 1950, Taupin credits his mom and paternal grandfather for
instilling him with an appreciation for literature, nature, history, music and poetry. Although
Taupin didn’t have much interest in traditional education, he demonstrated an uncommon
flair for writing and a love for many art forms. Frustrated with school at age 15 he dropped
out, and two years later he answered an ad resulting in his lifelong collaboration with a
certain Reginald Kenneth Dwight - soon to be Elton John.

Taupin’s lyrics arrived at Liberty Records’ and the rest is history. John and Taupin quickly
discovered their shared interest for movies, books and music and became instant friends.
Their forty year collaboration continues with 2010’s “The Union” the duo’s critically
acclaimed pairing with legendary wunderkind Leon Russell that garnered a rare five-star
review in Rolling Stone Magazine and weeks on Amazon’s Top Ten list.

But equally there is the other artist in him, the one with the brushes and paints who creates
emotive canvases. Ranging from abstract blocks and oblongs of tantalizing hues to cryptic
social commentary captured in multi-media form his works are rich in color and emotion.

In addition to painting and writing, he hosts a bi-weekly program on Sirius XM, The Loft
channel 30 “American Roots Radio with Bernie Taupin.” “ Here, Taupin enthusiastically
showcases his favorite music ranging from Blind Willie Johnson and Louis Jordon to Dean
Martin, The Louvin Brothers and Lionel Hampton to Mahalia Jackson . Like his art, his
musical tastes are eclectic.

An avid reader, Bernie reads over 40 books annually, ranging from the classics and
American history to biographies of jazz, blues and country pioneers. He is also an
exceptional cook and loves to host his closest friends and family.
